Weinberg’s Opera “The Passenger” Premieres to Great Success in Denmark

On 22 August 2018, Mieczysław Weinberg’s opera “The Passenger” had its Scandinavian premiere in the Aarhus Musikhuset. The audience was deeply impressed with the Philipp Kochheim production which received raving reviews. “Overwhelming”, such was the verdict of the Danish press after the premiere of the opera which had its first staged premiere only in 2010 in Bregenz and was put on stage in various countries after that, even though Weinberg had already completed it in 1968 – technically is the previous century. On Wednesday the 15th, Udo Zimmermann, the eternal champion of New Music, turns 75. The contemporary composer, dramaturge, conductor and composition professor always placed a strong focus on musical theatre and wrote several operas. Morten Lauridsen in Hamburg!

Singers and music lovers listen up: On 4 October, famous American choral composer Morten Lauridsen will be offering a choir workshop in Hamburg. We can expect captivating stories about his life, his music and its background. The rehearsed pieces will be performed at St. Michael’s church on the evening of the same day as part of a concert with the Chamber Choir of Europe conducted by Nicol Matt.
