Standards & Evergreens for Symphony Orchestra

These arrangements of a world hits selection from the various Peermusic catalogs, offer for the first time orchestra material for special programs, such as gala events, New Year’s concerts or simply as an encore.

As much as René Mense is a composer committed to contemporary classical music, he is also an accomplished arranger of light music for various instrumental ensembles. He arranged the present selection in an orchestration cast with the normal strings, double wood, 2 trumpets, 2 trombones and tuba, added partially by up to three percussion tunes and timpani, as well as piano and/or harp. Thus, these pieces can be easily integrated into all programs of classical and romantic repertoire, even up to modern classic. Latter period played a special role, because when René Mense developed additional composition and orchestration elements he was deeply inspired by music that is mainly found in the scores of composers such as Igor Strawinsky, Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy and Richard Strauss. This is especially displayed in the scores of Brazil and La Mer, which he arranged as ‘symphonic fantasies’. With additional jazz harmonies and rhythmic refinements that are typical for jazz, these orchestrations are referring to stylistic elements of great arrangers of dance and entertainment orchestras, such as Michel Legrand, Xavier Cugat oder Nelson Riddle.
