International Shostakovich Days 2017 with works by Mieczyslaw Weinberg

The 8th International Shostakovich Days will be held from 23 to 25 June 2017, again in the spa town of Gohrisch in the region of Germany known as the “Saxon Switzerland”. For the first time there will be also performed works by Mieczyslaw Weinberg.

On June 24 five works by Mieczyslaw Weinberg will be performed: Besides the world premiere of the Largo for violin and piano Linus Roth (vl), Dmitry Sitkovetsky (vl), Emil Rovner (vc) and José Gallardo (pf) will play the Rhapsody about Moladavian Themes, Op. 47/3, the Sonata for two violins, Op. 69, the Cello Sonata No. 2, Op. 63, and the Piano Trio, Op. 24.

In addition, the festival programme will include the world premiere of the Chamber Symphony No. 2, Op. 147 in four movements. Interpreters will be members of the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden under the direction of Thomas Sanderling. Furthermore, pianist Elisaveta Blumina will play excerpts of Weinberg's Children's Notebooks, Op. 16 and 19.
